What Is Vacuum Impregnation?

Vacuum impregnation is a process whereby a medium, usually resin, is introduced into the microporosity of a part to affect a permanent seal. American Metaseal has impregnated everything from drill components left on the moon to housings for the Patriot Missile.

Why Impregnate Metal Parts?

  • Prevent casting leaks in pressure-tight assemblies such as valves, engines, fuel pumps, instrument housings, and electronic components.
  • Prevent the finish failure of porous metals. When a part's porosity is sealed, no exudation of contaminates can leech out and impair product quality.
  • Better machinability.
  • Stop internal corrosion by impeding the "electrolytic circle" formed between the walls of the part's micropores.
What We Use
Our primary RESINS for vacuum impregnation are Imprex (Godfrey & Wing) 95-1000A and 95-1000AA. They are both considered worldwide superior choices for all impregnation needs.

What Is Electroless Nickel?

The term electroless nickel is used to describe a method of plating by means of controlled chemical reduction. Electroless nickel coatings are produced from solutions containing powerful reducing compounds that supply electrons to reduce nickel ions to metallic nickel. The deposit itself is catalytic to reduction. Compared to electrolytic nickel, and many other plated coatings, EN is harder and more corrosion resistant. In addition, EN has less surface porosity, better lubricity, and superior wear resistance. Lastly, EN deposits offer uniform thickness over all configurations, including blind holes and deep recesses.
The electroless nickel solutions utilized by American Metaseal are high-phosphorus and mid-phosphorus proprietary baths. We are proud to plate and impregnate for ongoing military projects.

Why Electroless Nickel?

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance
  • Excellent Abrasion/Wear Resistance
  • Good Solderability
  • Uniform Coating No High/Low Areas

What is Black Oxide?

Black Oxide is a finish that produces a deep black satin look that enhances appearance as well as corrosion protection. Examples of parts that commonly have Black Oxide finishes are blades, tools, machine parts and industrial items of all kinds.
